My work is based on the
theme of change. Change is a constant component in our lives. As we travel
along life’s great journey of self discovery, we are often challenged to
deal with changing personal circumstances, an ever-changing world and the
ways in which we communicate. Therefore ways to make interesting and
thought-provoking art also evolve to reflect these changes.
By using a number of different objects, materials and techniques, I explore
how it is possible to change something, to alter its appearance, its purpose
and its interaction with the space that it occupies to become a new creation
just as we change both inside and out over the course of our lives.

“Headspin” is a sculptural installation
exploring the notion of change. Change is a constant component in our lives
– physical and psychological changes take place within the body and mind
much like the seasons continue to rotate and change.
This installation is based upon the medical condition called Bipolar
Disorder; an illness that is part of daily life for many. The washing
machine drums, themselves familiar daily objects, represent pockets of ‘head
space’. The drum contents are chosen to invoke and imitate ‘feelings, moods
or attributes within each space within the mind. |
