I
am a keen artist and possess a real love for and commitment to what I set
out to achieve. My creations reflect my desire to interact with the world, a
need to communicate with others in a way that is founded on purity and
simplicity.
My work is concerned with the non-traditional media of light and the way it
is perceived visually and mentally. I am drawn to the non-tangible nature of
light, and how it can become part of the atmosphere - in other words, how it
can become a physical presence. My focus relates to the manipulation and
control of light within an environment, in particular the manipulation of
light to become an entity within itself.
I see light as a sculptural medium, one that can be shaped and manipulated.
It can be mixed and blended within the air like paint on a palette, becoming
the sculptural element of itself and taking hold of the atmosphere like
paint holds a canvas.
My work takes the viewer on an optical journey through the complexities of
perception, transporting the viewer from reality to the non-identifiable,
thereby becoming a gateway to the imagination. By producing an inescapable
moment in time, the work becomes a vehicle through which to explore the
exciting phenomena of light.
I am interested in the mental and physical effects of light within an
environment, in particular the effects of space and light combined together
within a piece of work. I work in 2D and 3D to create new and vibrant
sensory experiences. I build large-scale work in 3D. In these pieces, the
art is born from the union of two cosmic forces: e.g. wood (natural
material, connecting to the world and symbolising Mother Earth); and Light
(strong, intense, fleeting and colourful - an interior rebirth). Viewers can
penetrate inside the piece of art, where lights create shadows, winding
passages and darts, thus changing the viewers' sensation as they move.
